Batting Style by Louisa Masters

Now that I’ve discovered I have a secret boyfriend, I need to work out what I’m going to do about it.

When college baseball player, Jordan Marks’s suit rips he heads to the nearest menswear store to find a new one. It’s there where he meets Blaise Warner, his salesman and the man who helps him answer the question he’s had on whether he may be bisexual or not. The answer – unequivocally yes. Blaise has been focused on his goal of building his portfolio and saving enough money to apply for his dream internship but after meeting Jordan, he wants to make room for building a future with Jordan in those goals. But they are young and their relationship is new. Will it be strong enough to withstand when factors outside their control threaten to pull them in two different directions?

I thought this was a very sweet story. I was surprised to learn just how young Jordan was, he’s by far the youngest of the characters I’ve read about so far in this series. But he was such a sweetheart. He was very kind and considerate. He was also the biggest cheerleader and supporter of his friends and family. If someone he cared about was struggling he wanted to do anything he could to help fix it. Never in an overbearing way, though. He was privileged, thanks to his successful family, and he knew it but I loved that he always tried to use his advantages or connections to help others. In a lot of ways, he was quite mature but he also showed his youth in a lot of ways too. I enjoyed his character a lot!

Blaise didn’t have the same leg up that Jordan did, he had to work hard for everything he’s got and he values his independence. When Jordan comes into his life and tries to help him, Blaise doesn’t always know how to handle that. He’s not looking for handouts and doesn’t want to seem like he’s only with Jordan for his connections. These young men were thrown a lot of big things that they had to navigate in their fledgling relationship. Some things they handled very well and others not so well but I loved how they ultimately talked it out and figured out a way forward.

I loved Jordan’s dads and I want to go back and read their book! They were so great and had raised an amazing young man and I loved how they welcomed and supported Blaise once he and Jordan started dating. The book ends with a HFN but be sure to sign up for the bonus scene to get a peek into their future! It’s worth it!
