Shameless Puckboy by Eden Finley and Saxon James

“What are you doing?”

“Reminding myself that I love my job and I can’t hurt you because prison isn’t fun.”

Oskar Voyjik is a star defenseman on the ice but it’s his antics off the ice that tend to land him in the headlines more often. When his latest sexcapade is captured on CCTV, his team’s PR department is forced to bring out the big guns. If he can’t behave when left to his own devices, they just won’t leave him to his own devices anymore. Lane Pierce is the head of the San Jose PR department and Oskar’s newly assigned babysitter. If Lane can’t get Oskar to fall in line, both of their careers may be on the line. It’s no small feat, though, to break through this shameless persona that Oskar’s perfected over the years. But the more Lane sees who Oskar really is underneath all that bluster, the risk of losing both his job and his heart becomes even greater.

To save my career, I have to stop pretending to be that douchey guy that gets me attention. But the problem is, I’ve been pretending to be him for so long, it’s hard to tell where he ends and the real me begins.

I’m having a lot of fun with this series! I think Irresponsible Puckboy is still my favorite so far but I really enjoyed this one as well. We had a little taste of Oskar in the last book so it was nice to get his story and find out what he’s all about. He seemed fun and carefree, but when you learn why he had to create this persona, it was a little sad. He struggled a lot with his self-worth. Lane was really the first person to take the time to see beyond that and it was very touching witnessing how much that truly meant to Oskar. Of course, due to their situation at the start of the book, there was a lot of great banter as Oskar made it his mission to antagonize Lane. This back-and-forth was a lot of fun and I’ve got to hand it to Lane, his methods may not have been very traditional but they were highly effective! Especially when they cross that line and Lane resorts to offering up himself as a means to rein in Oskar’s proclivity toward public sexual situations. Seriously, the way Lane figures out how to satisfy Oskar’s need for exhibitionism while also keeping him safe was nothing short of brilliant. They really were well-matched in a lot of ways. I loved watching them fall for each other and figuring out how it was all going to shake out given the forbidden nature of their pairing. There were even a few twists along the way that I didn’t expect but loved what they added to the story. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that my beloved members of the Queer Collective make several appearances throughout the story which was the cherry on top! I’m excited to read about Aleks next, especially since we saw a lot of him in this book!

Lane might be the best thing that’s ever happened to me, whether I’m willing to admit that aloud or not.
