The Realist (The Vers Podcast 3) by Riley Hart

Who knew The Vers’s realist was secretly the sweetest man in the world.

Marcus Alston is known as The Realist amongst his friends and the listeners of their podcast The Vers. He’s guided by his head, not his heart, and he’ll always tell it like it is. He is also the first to help his friends out when they need it which is why he finds himself offering a room in his house to Kai Lewis. Kai is a giant flirt but Marcus is sure he can continue to resist, even once they’re living under the same roof. But once Kai is in his space, looking irresistible in his little shorts and crop tops and doing kind and thoughtful things for Marcus, his resolve begins to falter. It only took him 35 years but Marcus has finally found someone he could see himself having a relationship with – if only Kai wasn’t so much younger than him and also planning on leaving California very soon.

“Let yourself see how incredible you are.”

“I see myself just fine.” I shifted uncomfortably.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire.”

This was another sweet story in this series. Marcus may have been a realist but all of his friends knew he actually had a huge heart and would do anything for any of them. Just seeing how he was with his best friend, Corbin, showed you all you needed to know about the kind of guy he was. But he kept his heart closed off, never taking any of that help or love back for himself – until Kai. I loved how Kai recognized that fact pretty quickly and went out of his way to do special things for Marcus. Seeing how much those acts of kindness meant to Marcus really warmed my heart. They also had really good chemistry, I enjoyed their dynamic in that regard and how it was a contrast to how they were outside the bedroom. I thought they also had really good communication, they pretty much knew where they stood with one another the whole time.

It’s been fun seeing this group of friends find their happily ever afters and I’m excited to see Corbin finally find his match, even though I’m going to be sad to say goodbye to these guys when all is said and done!

I’d always prided myself on keeping it real, but this? Love? It was the realest thing of all, and I hadn’t known it until Kai.
