Only One Coffin by A.J. Truman

“You know what they say. When the coffin’s a rockin’, don’t come a knockin’.”

It’s almost Halloween so it felt like a good time to pick this book up, even though it takes place just after Christmas. Either way, this book was a lot of fun! It’s a very quick read but it didn’t feel rushed at all. Magnus is a centuries-old vampire looking to spend a quiet week at a secluded Icelandic vampire resort, a trip he looks forward to every year. But this year a double-booking mishap causes him to have to share a coffin with Kilroy, a newly turned vampire who still has a human’s zest for life. And much to Magnus’s dismay, some of Kilroy’s adventurous spirit seems to be rubbing off on him as they spend a whirlwind week together doing all the things that Magnus usually avoided. Suddenly, having to share a cramped coffin doesn’t seem so bad. But they’ll have to manage to avoid the vampire slayers closing in on the resort if their budding romance has any chance of lasting for eternity.

I love a good age gap but I’ve never read one with a 300-year gap before! Magnus may have appeared close in age to Kilroy but he had centuries on him and I loved seeing how they played off one another in that regard. Seeing Magnus loosen up and actually start to enjoy life again was fun. And on the other hand, seeing Magnus help Kilroy acclimate to his new life as a vampire was unexpectedly deep and often poignant. This book caught me in the feels a few times!

One thing I’ve always enjoyed about paranormal romances is that many of the rules of the human world don’t apply and the rules of the “world” a particular author builds are often different and fun to discover. There were some fun and creative rules in this one that I hadn’t encountered before. Some of them resulted in some very acrobatic and unique moments when it came to the spicy scenes! Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one and I’m glad I stumbled upon it!!
