He was everything I’d fantasized about for the past thirty years rolled into one delicious pine-scented giant.
Everyone in town loves Baxter Baker, everyone except Paxton Montgomery, that is. Paxton can’t understand how anyone can be that cheery all the time. Surely it’s fake, and Paxton has no time for fake people. When his son and Baxter’s daughter rig the pairing for their town’s Christmas Buddies program, the two men are forced to partake in festive holiday activities together. Baxter sees it as an opportunity to get Paxton to like him and Paxton is just hoping to make it through the holidays without strangling the guy. But Paxton soon learns that Baxter’s smiles are a mask to hide a mountain of stress and anxiety. Paxton’s protective instincts kick into gear and suddenly his main goal this holiday season becomes figuring out how to bring real smiles to Baxter’s face.
His hair was honey, his skin was spun sugar, and I couldn’t help but crave him in a way that was so terrifying I had no idea what to do with it.
This book was the sweetest! It was like a warm, holiday hug. I loved the grumpy/sunshine aspect, particularly because our little sunshine, Baxter, actually had a lot going on underneath that smiley exterior. He was so used to putting everything and everyone before his own needs so now he’s lonely and tired. Paxton was a total grump when we first met him, and he did not like Baxter. But it made it that much sweeter when he started to thaw toward him and ultimately ended up head over heels for the guy. Paxton was certainly quick to pass judgment but was big enough to admit when he was wrong and worked hard to make it right. The ways he cared for Baxter were so heartwarming.
Another thing I really loved about this story was what great dads both men were. Paxton’s son, Nathan, and Baxter’s daughter, Becca, were really great characters and I loved their relationships with their fathers. I loved how the 4 of them became their own little family over the course of the book. This story gave me all the holiday feels, every page just filled my heart more and more until it felt like it might burst. Eventually, it did because I had happy tears streaming down my face at the end! But in addition to all the warm and fuzzy feelings, this book had major spice! These two were so hot together and they got up to some pretty exciting and inventive sexy times! This book had all the things I hope to find in a holiday romance!
The only thing that would make this better was if I had him decorated in nothing but red ribbon. A gift for me to unwrap. My own fucking Christmas present.
The one I’d been waiting for all my life.
