“Revenge, huh?”
I nod, smile spreading over my face. “He’d deserve it.”
“Can’t disagree there.”
“See? We already have something in common! You’re going to warm to me yet.”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
When Rush shows up at his boyfriend’s house in a very revealing outlet to celebrate their anniversary, the last thing he expects is to be greeted by his boyfriend’s fiancé and family. Brokenhearted and embarrassed, Rush runs off hoping to never see either of them again. A few weeks later, he’s horrified to learn that his new boss is none other than his ex’s ex-fiancé. Hunter makes it clear he doesn’t like Rush but Rush can’t understand why – after all, they were both victims in this scenario. Rather than fighting each other, Rush suggests they team up to get revenge against their scumbag of an ex. Their quest for revenge, though, may end up with them finding love in the last place they ever expected.
I really had no hope when it came to him. Not when he’s so … pure. Happy.
I loved this book so much! I’ve loved this whole series but Rush has captured my whole heart. He was the most incredible character, so pure and honest with the biggest heart and sparkliest brain. Rush was so earnest in his quest to get Hunter to like him, the emails and their little plant custody battle were adorable and so funny. There was no way Hunter wasn’t going to fall for Rush. As soon as he truly understood that they were both victims, he began to see all the wonderful qualities that made Rush such a catch. I loved seeing them grow closer and gradually fall for one another as they plotted how to get revenge against Ian (who was such an asshole and deserved every bad thing he had coming to him).
I think back over our conversations. Since we resolved the tension between us, I don’t think Hunter’s gotten snappy with me once. I also can’t remember getting snappy with him.
That’s a bit cute of us.
I thought the portrayal of Rush’s ADHD was very well done. I love how he owned it. He wasn’t ashamed of it and worked so hard to manage it. And everyone who mattered in his life simply accepted Rush and his sparkly brain and didn’t try to change him. He struggled sometimes but he had people who loved him and looked out for him when things became too overwhelming. Seeing Hunter learn how to become one of those trusted people was beautiful.
I want love. I want a boyfriend who’s as crazy about me as I am about them. Who doesn’t try to make me into someone I’m not or love me despite my “quirks.” I don’t have quirks. I’m just myself. Will it ever be enough?
We were also treated to so many more amazing moments with the ever-expanding Big-Boned Bertha crew. This group is one of the very best found families I’ve had the pleasure of reading. They make me laugh and the way they love and support one another and accept these new additions into the fold warms my heart. I look forward to visiting them again later this year!
I’m not perfect—I don’t think anyone is. I like me though, and I’ve never had an issue with who I am, but when I’m with Hunter, that feeling intensifies. I see me the way he sees me, and the way he sees me is pretty fucking great.
