“All this stuff.” I grab the container of wipes and hold it up. “The napkins. The wipes. You know they’re just distractions. It doesn’t matter. I mean to me.”
This was another delight from M.A. Wardell. Here we are, 3/4 of the way through this series, and picking up this book felt a lot like visiting with old friends. I loved seeing all my past favorites popping up throughout this one and it was so fun seeing Kent and Vincent find their happily ever after. If you’ve read the first 2 books in the series you’ll remember these guys, we met Vincent in Teacher of the Year and Kent in Mistletoe and Mishigas. You’ll also remember that these two guys couldn’t be more different. Vincent with his OCD and need for everything to be clean and tidy and Kent who’s basically a walking calamity. On paper, they absolutely should not have worked, but with M.A. Wardell’s magic touch, these guys were actually perfect for one another.
Something about Vincent Manda makes me want to tuck him into my pocket and care for him like a treasure.
We’ve got a 12-year age gap here, Kent’s got a grown daughter and a grandchild and he and his wife split several years ago. He’s finally ready to get back in the dating pool and explore the other side of his bi-sexuality. Vincent is used to never getting past the first date, thanks to his OCD and people not knowing how to handle it. Their first date was a bit of a disaster but their physical attraction was enough to allow them to overlook that. I loved how hot these two were for each other. It was great reading about people in my age group finding love and leaning in to discover what works for them in the bedroom. M.A. Wardell brings the spice in this one (right from the get-go too), definitely his spiciest book yet!
“But, I’m the extra napkins guy. The joke you tell friends at a party.”
Kent kisses my neck four times and whispers, “Vincent Manda, you are not a joke.”
These two balanced each other so well. Kent was very kind and supportive of Vincent and his needs because of his OCD. It was heartwarming seeing Kent convince Vincent that he wasn’t broken and that he was worthy of love. Poor Kent could barely walk two steps without tripping over his own feet but he tried so hard to do whatever he could to make Vincent comfortable. And Vincent worked hard to find ways to cope so he could allow the things that were important to Kent into his life. They both truly saw the other, it was beautiful.
“Sometimes it takes time for the right person to wander into your life.”
As I mentioned earlier, I loved seeing Marvin, Olan, Sheldon, and Theo but I also loved all the new secondary characters. Kent’s granddaughter was a doll, I loved their relationship. I also loved Ruth, she was a great friend and confidant for Kent. I just really love M.A. Wardell’s stories, the authenticity, the representation, the heart, heat, and humor – they’ve got a little bit of everything!
He wants me. Even with my napkins. Wipes. Routines. He wants me. Me.
