Boone Stanton, while he is my brother-in-law, is one of the sexiest men I’ve ever seen. It’s unfair, honestly.
Grady Wilde has always had a crush on his sister’s husband but has always pushed it to the back of his mind since he obviously couldn’t act on it. But when Grady moves in with them and learns that they are getting separated, the feelings he’s been pushing away begin to resurface. Boone Stanton never looked at Grady as more than a friend and his brother-in-law but lately, he’s seeing him in a new light and starts having lots of confusing and inappropriate feelings toward his ex-brother-in-law. As circumstances keep pushing them together, it gets harder and harder to ignore the attraction. But acting on it could cost them everything.
Christ, why am I staring at my twenty-one-year-old brother-in-law’s happy trail? What the fuck is wrong with me?
It was nice being back in Copper Lake, it’s a crew I’ve become quite fond of. I enjoyed this one, though I think Xander and Cope are still my favs. I liked the forbidden vibes here, there was no easy way for Boone and Grady to move forward given their situation. No matter what happened, Boone’s ex/Grady’s sister was going to be hurt. This resulted in a lot of “one step forward, two steps back” situations. They’d have a moment of weakness and then one would be all “this can’t happen again”, rinse and repeat. It made sense for the story but it did make the pace feel slower than the other books.
Whether I like it or not, I feel a pull toward him, one that is confusing, but maybe we don’t have to decipher it.
Maybe we can just be.
Ultimately, Boone and Grady were very good together. I wanted things to work out for them and seeing how they both struggled with wanting each other but not wanting to hurt Jade tugged at my heartstrings. I’d say this book had more angst than the prior two as well, but that’s to be expected given the circumstances. I was happy with how everything worked out and I loved seeing all my favs from the series throughout this one. And glad to see that Shooter is still causing trouble wherever he goes!
His proximity has a way of fogging my brain, making me simply forget what’s right and wrong.
