It’s messing with my head because I can’t seem to stop thinking about how adorable and attractive my best friend is.
After seeing Austin serving up coffee to all our FU favs this season, it’s finally time for him to get his own HEA. Austin was such a cutie. He’s super shy and introverted and would much rather sit and read his romance novels than interact with people – in other words, he was just like me. He longed to find a love like the ones he read about in his books but he always got too nervous and tongue-tied whenever he was around cute guys. His best friend, Dex, is outgoing and confident and not into romance but he’s happy to help Austin find his own romance.
One day Austin asks Dex to help teach him his ways through a series of practice dates. Dex doesn’t want to mess up their friendship but he also wants to help Austin, so he agrees. With every date, Austin’s confidence grows but at the same time, the lines between their friendship and romance begin to blur. Dex knows the goal is to let Austin spread his wings and find a guy but he’s not so sure he can let him go.
“No one’s ever…”
“Then it’s their loss. I’m the lucky one who gets to have you.” I tug on his arm so I can take his lips again.
“I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
I thought this was a very cute story. Austin and Dex’s friendship was very sweet. Dex’s intentions were always good but sometimes he would push Austin a little too much. He was always apologetic, though, when Austin made it known he was uncomfortable. But he was also protective and very considerate toward Austin, especially when they started their fake dating. I liked seeing their dynamic shifting and then trying to figure out what that meant. Dex had a good reason for not being interested in romance but he was quite good at it, it was sweet seeing the little things he would do for Austin.
And as I mentioned earlier, as a fellow introverted bookworm, Austin was super relatable. I loved seeing our sweet barista find his true love!
“You don’t even know how romantic you are.”
“Well, I’ve learned a thing or two from this guy I’m seeing. He taught me that I can make someone happy. That just because things didn’t work out for other people in my life doesn’t mean they won’t for me.”
“He’s a smart man.”
“Smart and hot. Adorable and sweet. The whole package.”
