His heart was tender and pinned to his sleeve, and someone like Oliver could rip it to shreds without even meaning to.
It started as a simple mix-up when Victor got into Oliver’s car, thinking it was the driver he hired for the evening. Oliver was waiting for someone that night it just wasn’t this man who radiated sadness but he couldn’t bear to clear up the mistake. They spend an incredible evening together and when the truth comes out about what Oliver does for a living, Victor still looks at him like he’s an angel. They come from two very different worlds but for one week nothing exists except the two of them together and this magical thing brewing between them. When the week is up, though, will they be able to walk away or will they fight for what their hearts truly want?
“I wasn’t expecting you,” Oliver murmured, then kissed the pad of Victor’s finger.
Victor laughed again, and his head dropped down to the mattress. “Sweet angel, that’s the understatement of the year.”
When you hear about a book featuring a rich guy and a male escort, you have certain preconceived notions and it only took me a few pages to realize that this book was going to be nothing like I was expecting. And that turned out to be a very good thing! Both men had backstories that tugged at my heartstrings. Victor was rich and came from money, but he never quite fit in, and given what happened in the first chapter, he was very lost and hurt when he met Oliver.
Oliver didn’t have an easy start to life and he may have an unorthodox job but he had a solid plan for his future and this current phase as an escort is just a means to an end. I loved how he completely owned it and was not the least bit ashamed of who he was and what he did. He won my heart, though, with the kindness he showed Victor from the moment they met. He was so good and understanding and showed Victor a level of care he’d never experienced from anyone in his life.
“I know I can’t keep you, but I want to pretend for just a little while that you’re mine.”
Sure this was kind of insta-love, but I believed the deep feelings they developed in the span of a week. They both knew the score and were very open with how they felt while also acknowledging the hopelessness of the feelings given their arrangement had an expiration date. Neither one was accustomed to having someone treat them with such tenderness and care, it was really beautiful watching them find that in each other. There’s a teensy bit of angst when the end of their week together arrives but I thought it was needed to get them to where they needed to be. The ending was very sweet and I can’t wait to read the extended epilogue that was recently released for them!
“Even when I was at my lowest, you saw someone worth loving.”
“It was impossible not to.”
