This was another great book written by Keira Andrews and narrated by Greg Boudreaux! The fact that it was included in my Audible membership was a bonus. This story was adventurous, sweet, sexy, and quite suspenseful. The story follows Jason Kellerman, a 25-year-old single father to 8-year-old Maggie. Jason was very young when Maggie was born and after Maggie’s mother passed away unexpectedly, Jason was determined to raise Maggie on his own. Despite the protests of his family. He’s dedicated his entire life to giving Maggie the best life possible and he was an incredible father. He loved Maggie so much.
He saved up his money to give Maggie her dream vacation, a camping trip out in Montana. It’s here where they meet park ranger, Ben Hettler. Ben is older and sort of just stuck after his long-term boyfriend left him and started the family Ben always dreamed of with someone else. Ben is drawn to Jason and Maggie immediately. He senses interest from Jason but isn’t sure whether he should act on it – the man is younger, inexperienced, and lives across the country. But before they can act on anything, a hunted criminal kidnaps Maggie, and Ben and Jason must team up to save her before it’s too late.
I loved all the camping bits and how great Ben was with both Maggie and Jason. It was cute how nervous Jason got around him, he was clearly attracted to Ben but wasn’t sure what to do about it. There was some flirting at first but then everything hit the fan and their attraction took a back seat. The suspense ramped up near the middle, the parts where they’re trying to rescue Maggie were quite scary. The narrator did an amazing job portraying all the complicated emotions during this part.
I think what I loved most was how everything was handled after the danger had passed. The fallout was handled very well and thoroughly explored. It would have cheapened the experience if everyone was just peachy after. I’m glad that we got to see the struggle and the aftereffects of the trauma on all three of them. Some might argue it was a little insta-love in the end but I think these three were bonded by their shared trauma and I was glad to see them find their way together. The epilogue was fantastic and brought tears to my eyes!
