“When we crashed, I started living again. Before then I was sleepwalking. You woke me up, Troy. I don’t want to go back to sleep.”
Rather than watch his little brother throw his life away on drugs, Troy Tanner walks out on him and their boy band’s tour. He hires a private plane to fly him back to the States but a freak cyclone in the South Pacific causes the plane to crash on a remote island, with Troy and the co-pilot, Brian Sinclair as the only survivors. Stranded together, the two must work together to survive while they hope for a miracle. As the days wear on, the two grow closer, building a friendship and trust like they’ve never experienced before. Attraction also blossoms between them after a while and they decide to explore their sexuality while they are stuck in their little world. But what’ll happen to the connection they’ve formed when they’re rescued and have to return to the real world?
I listened to this book via Audible and loved it! Greg Boudreaux is quickly becoming a go-to narrator for me. I think this was the 4th book in a row I’ve listened to narrated by him (and written by Keira Andrews) and they’ve all been excellent. The wide range of emotions that Greg Boudreaux can convey with his voice is impressive and Keira Andrews can write big emotions in her stories so I think they make a good combination when paired together.
I really enjoyed this story too. The crash and the period immediately following it were frightening, Troy and Brian’s fears were portrayed so well. I sure wouldn’t have wanted to be in their shoes! But as they settled into their new reality, I loved seeing them figure out ways to meet their basic needs to stay alive while they waited and hoped for rescue. Brian was so capable and brave. Troy may have been a famous boy bander but he was no slouch either and more than pulled his weight.
As you can imagine, when you’re the only two people left, you’re bound to develop a deep bond as you rely on each other for survival. I loved seeing this bond form between Troy and Brian. They developed such a wonderful friendship and it wasn’t until quite far in the story that anything sexual happened. But when it did, it felt like a natural progression and it was sweet but also hot seeing them explore their sexuality together.
There was a bit of angst in the later parts of the book that stressed me out a bit but things worked themselves out and the ending was very sweet. I’m a little sad to say goodbye to these guys but I very much enjoyed their journey!
