It was candy canes and pinecones. It was epic and awesome. And it was home.
I feel like this is a series that needs no introduction, I see it talked about everywhere and wanted to finally see what all the hype was about. I understand now why people love the Bennetts and their assorted humans, witches, and wolves. I kinda felt like, by the end of the book, I became part of the pack too. The found family vibes are immaculate in this one! Especially as the story went on and the pack expanded and changed, picking up other misfits along the way. The love and bond between all these characters were fantastic. The pack was tested time and again but through the pack came strength and I loved seeing how everyone would band together to protect their own.
All I’d ever wanted was to keep him safe. Ever since that first day on the road, when he spoke and moved like a little tornado, all I’d ever wanted was to make sure nothing ever happened to Joe Bennett.
I loved Ox from the very start and felt very protective of him. He was told by his father at a young age that he would never amount to anything, so seeing his journey as he found his place in the world was quite lovely. I loved how he proved his father wrong at every turn. His strength and determination was admirable. The journey wasn’t always easy, there is quite a long stretch in the middle of the book that was hard, but everything that happened only served to shape Ox into who he was meant to be.
I was a little hesitant about the age gap between Ox and Joe, particularly with how young Joe was when they met. But I thought, in light of all that, the way things played out worked well and I loved their bond. They went through a lot but it was always going to be Ox and Joe in the end. I loved all the other characters too. Ox’s mother and the way she loved her son unconditionally. Gordo had my heart from the start with the way he cared for young Ox. Elizabeth, Thomas, and Mark for the way they brought Ox under their wing. Carter and Kelly cracked me up. Tanner, Rico, and Chris were loyal and brought comic relief too. Jessie was badass. And sweet Robbie, willing to incur Joe’s wrath to protect Ox. I loved them all. I laughed, I cried, and I look forward to reading the other books in the series!
“You gave me purpose. You gave me a home. A pack. A family.”
