Headline: Christmas Prince falls into minor coma at sight of guy he kissed one and a half years ago who had the audacity to get even hotter in the interim.
Too wordy. Not sure I care.
This book caught my eye when it was touted as RWRB meets The Nightmare Before Christmas, two of my fav things. I’d say it was more RWRB than NBC but it was still a fun read. The premise was unique and the world was intriguing. Prince Nicholas (aka Coal) was a fun character. He’s the heir to the throne of Christmas and longs for the days before his father turned the holiday into one PR event after another. He wants to help and do good but always manages to mess things up. But when he learns the truth behind what his father has been doing, he’s determined to find a way to fix things and not mess it up for once.
In the midst of this, though, he’s got to deal with being forced into a fake competition against Hex, the Prince of Halloween for the Easter Princess’s hand in marriage. Something that none of them want – especially when Coal realizes the Hex was the mystery man he kissed behind a bar one drunken night several months earlier. Will Coal be able to get out of this marriage farce, win over Hex, and save Christmas before it’s too late?
…everything about him is filed to a knifepoint and I suddenly want nothing more than for him to make me bleed.
I liked all the holiday political intrigue. It wasn’t what I was expecting but it was fun. Coal was a bit of a hot mess but he had a good heart and really wanted to make a difference. I liked how he teamed up with the other heirs to try to fix everything his father was doing (btw, Santa was pretty awful in this!). His brother Kris and the Easter Princess Iris were his best friends and partners in crime and when Hex arrives he’s quickly thrown into the mix. They all had great banter and it was fun watching this unlikely group team up.
…all I want to do is drop-kick my best friend away from Hex even though she’s as trapped as we are.
I am going to need so much therapy after this.
I also enjoyed how down bad Coal was for Hex. He spent the time since their drunken kiss behind the bar wondering who the mystery man was and his feelings only intensified when Hex shows up at Coal’s kingdom. They were very sweet together and they had their work cut out for them to figure out a way they could be together. I was happy with how things turned out but I feel like there may be more to the story in the second book that’s coming out next year!
