How my Christmas had gone from a quiet, lonely non-event to a sweet and fun, not-lonely-at-all-event, with this cute Aussie guy who had literally crashed into my life, I had no clue. But one thing I knew for sure . . . Santa Claus might have given me the best gift ever.
Well if this wasn’t just the sweetest thing! I’m pretty sure I read through most of it with a dopey grin on my face as I soaked in all the Hallmark Christmas movie vibes this book had to offer. Funnily enough, I don’t care much for Hallmark Christmas movies, they’re usually far too cheesy for me. However, you put all that same cheesiness into a holiday romance and I will eat it right up. And that’s exactly what I did with this one, reading it in one sitting.
Hamish is moving to the US from Australia to be closer to his sister and in hopes of making a fresh start. His travel is a nightmare, however, and he winds up driving his car into a ditch in the middle of a snowstorm. Luckily for him, his accident happened right in from of Ren’s house who kindly rescues him and offers him a place to stay while they wait out the storm.
These two hit it off immediately and were so darn cute together. Hamish was a bit of a hot mess but he was a hoot, I can see why Ren was so smitten with him. And Ren was a total sweetheart. A gentleman through and through, he was so kind to Hamish and genuinely loved having the company at the holidays. A holiday he was prepared to spend alone after losing his father earlier in the year. But Hamish understood what Ren was going through and was so wonderful in helping him still enjoy the holiday. These two fell in love fast, within a week, but their connection was believable and I was rooting for them to find their HEA!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how freaking adorable Hamish was with Ren’s dog, Chutney. OMG, these two almost stole the show! The way Chutney would always jump into Hamish’s lap and how Hamish would talk to her and show her things. My heart melted. Oh! And another fun thing for my Schitt’s Creek loving heart – there were so many SC references throughout this story. I’m pretty sure I squealed in delight a few times as some of the iconic moments from SC were woven so perfectly into this story.
I loved every second of this book and finished with a few tears falling from my eyes. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
“Thank you. For running off the road out the front of my place. For saving me from a miserable Christmas by myself, and for being the best thing to come into my life in a really long time.”
