The Christmas Switch by Briar Prescott

This thing I feel inside me whenever I’m near Josh, what if it’s not irritation? What if calling it irritation is me purposefully hiding from what it really is?

What if it actually is excitement?

The rivalry between Josh and Gabriel began when they met in middle school and has persisted for the last decade. It’s still going strong as they both vie for the coveted job offer awaiting one of them at the end of the internship they’ve been working at. They must work together to set up for the office Christmas party and things are going fine enough until a minor Christmas lights incident results in them waking up to discover they’ve somehow swapped bodies. Since they have no idea how to swap back, they’re forced to pretend to be each other over the holidays. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to literally walk a mile in someone else’s shoes but as Josh and Gabe do just that, they begin to see a different side of each other and realize that maybe, just maybe, they actually like each other.

I had a lot of fun reading this one! That’s pretty much a given with a Briar Prescott book, though. I think this was the first time I’ve read a book with a Freaky Friday style body swap. It was a little tricky at first trying to keep everything straight, my brain was definitely working overtime. But eventually, I got the hang of it and everything flowed well. It was highly amusing seeing them try and act like the other one. But my favorite part was getting to see them gain a new understanding of one another. It helped them bond in a way that probably would have never happened if they didn’t share this experience, and it was really lovely.

I’ll admit, I was very curious how any potential spicy scenes might play out given the whole body switch thing but I liked how it was all handled. The resolution of the body swap was not what I was expecting but I liked it and was happy with how it all played out. I wouldn’t have minded a few more chapters to see these two start their relationship a bit more but luckily, we get a really great epilogue that wraps everything up nicely. If you’re looking for a unique, fun holiday read, that has a lot of heart you may want to give this one a try!
