How does one proposition a guy for consistent good-luck sex for the rest of the hockey season?
I was so excited when Riley Hart announced she was writing a hockey book, I knew it was going to be awesome and I was right. This book was pretty perfect, 10/10, no notes. I was grinning like a fool and positively giddy for most of the time I was reading it. Hayes and Rylan were the cutest and so sweet together. The banter was top-tier, they had such a good rapport from their very first meeting. The chemistry was instantaneous and only got better and better as time went on. I had so much fun swooning over these guys!
“You’re so fucking cute, and you’re good luck.”
“But I’m not lucky. Not really. What’s going to happen when you realize that?”
“I get to decide who you are to me.”
Poor Hayes was having a rough go of things after his boyfriend walked out on him during Hayes’ very public proposal. Things got worse when it came out that he was just one in a long line of men that his ex was stringing along. The last thing he wanted was another relationship but he wasn’t opposed to easy hookups. The hot guy who walks into the bar in Seattle seems like a good place to start.
After hooking up with Hayes, NHL defenseman Rylan Pierce has a great game and wishes he could see the guy again. When he learns they live in the same town, he makes Hayes an offer – they keep hooking up so Hayes can gain experience and Rylan can keep his good luck charm until the end of the season. Neither one is looking for a relationship and it would be a circus if word ever got out about them so they agree to keep things easy and no strings. Except, it doesn’t take long for things to get… stringy. But can Rylan convince Hayes that his heart is safe with him?
“I don’t understand the way you make me feel… like I’m more.”
“You deserve to feel like you’re everything.”
I loved how adorably awkward Hayes was and Rylan loved it too. He was completely smitten with Hayes from the get-go and it was so cute. He made sure to let Hayes know how awesome he was every chance he got. Hayes had confidence issues which were only made worse after the whole Malcolm debacle but I loved how hard Rylan worked to help Hayes see he was someone worth loving. Seeing Hayes confidence grow throughout the book was wonderful.
One of the ways Rylan helped Hayes gain confidence was in the bedroom. They had such amazing chemistry, this book was very hot, and Rylan was so great at letting Hayes know how sexy and attractive he was. Hayes was so cute as he just blurted out every thought that came into his head when they were hooking up.
I also loved the hockey content. There’s nothing sadder than being promised a hockey book that doesn’t have actual hockey in it. But that’s not the case here. And it was fun seeing Hayes become a hockey fan the longer he spent around Rylan. This book just hit all the right notes for me from start to finish. I loved the Jilted Exes club guys too and how that friendship grew and I’m looking forward to reading their stories as the series progresses!
“We’re going to make this work,” I tell him.
“Damn right we are. You’re mine, cutie. And I don’t ever plan to let you go.”
