“You might want to look out. Hartbridge has a way of collecting Australian men.”
A short-term chef position over the Christmas holiday at a new Bed & Breakfast in a small town in Montana is the perfect gig for Jayden Turner before he keeps heading west to find his next adventure. He doesn’t expect to be thoroughly charmed by the small town of Hartbridge or his new boss, Carter “Cass” Campion. Cass is recently divorced and finally living his truth as an out gay man. With all his focus on opening his B&B and with the notable lack of gay men in Hartbridge, he hasn’t had many opportunities to take advantage of his newly single status until Jayden shows up at his door. The only problem is, that Jayden is set to leave after a week and Cass will be alone again. But perhaps a little holiday magic will help make Cass’ Christmas wish list come true.
“Ask me how strong my self-control is. Go on, ask.”
I tried not to smile. “How’s your self-control holding up there, Cass? By a thread?”
“By a tiny thread. A single strand of thread. That’s it. Just one.”
It was good to be back in Hartbridge for another magical Christmas! This was another sweet story full of cozy holiday vibes and the most heartwarming romance. This was a slow burn, for sure, but there was no doubt that Cass and Jayden were very into each other from the start. But they did the responsible thing (for a while anyway) and waited to act on it, which led to some great flirting and loads of pining. It was very well done and the payoff was certainly worth it!
I loved how open and honest these two were with one another. They communicated so well, often blurting out whatever was on their minds, for better or worse. There were no secrets and they knew exactly where they stood with each other. It was very refreshing. Without giving too much away, I also liked how the whole “get Jayden to stay” part was handled. It felt very realistic to me.
He tasted like coffee and peanut butter and . . . exactly like what was missing in my life.
I also loved how Jayden stepped in to help Cass, who had been handling everything on his own for so long and was quite overwhelmed. Jayden recognized it right away and calmly set out a plan to get everything done. He was level-headed and organized, which was exactly what Cass needed. He was also an absolute boss in the kitchen. Seeing how competent and in control he was while doing his job was super hot. It’s no wonder Cass fell for him so easily!
The Ren and Hamish cameos were fun and after seeing who the next book is about, I’m looking forward to continuing the series!
I wanted romance.
I wanted to fall in love with a man. I wanted to be loved by a man in return, to know what that felt like.
I wanted it with him.
