Deck the Fire Halls by N.R. Walker

I had a real good feeling about him. I dunno how or why, because he was certainly not my type, but there was something—something—about Robinson O’Reilly that made my heart take notice.

Dr. Robinson O’Reilly moves to Hartbridge for a change of pace after completely burning out at his previous job in Seattle. Firefighter Soren De Silva has been in Hartbridge for 2 years and loves it, except for the lack of available queer men in town. He wants a romance and someone to share his life with but is left with just watching the other couples in town and wishing he could have what they did. But then he spots the new doctor, who also happens to be his new neighbor and wonders if maybe it’s his turn to benefit from the Hartbridge Christmas magic that his friends insist is real.

One gorgeous, smart single gay man turns up in town and I’m all over him like a dog in heat.

This one was very sweet! Rob and Soren were adorable. They hit it off right away (well, minus the flamingo pjs incident) but I loved how they both wanted a romance and a chance at building something that would last. Soren was so forward and flirty, he had big golden retriever energy. These two were so hot for each other but they tried reining it in for the sake of building that foundation. I loved all the cozy domestic moments between them. Everything about their relationship was just lovely.

I also enjoyed seeing Rob settle into his simpler lifestyle. He was very burnt out and jaded when he arrived but he grasped his new life with both hands and absolutely thrived. I loved how the other guys in their friend group brought him right into the fold and he could find that sense of community he longed for.

His face lit up too, smiling and bright, the Christmas lights reflecting in his eyes, and I swear the world stopped turning. I’d never seen anything so beautiful.

I’m unsure if this’ll be the last book in this series, but I’d be happy to return to it should the author feel compelled to write more! I love this little town and the wonderful found family that developed throughout the series. Every previous character was so important to the subsequent books, which I loved. Hamish was so funny in this book, you could count on a laugh whenever he made an appearance! I’m going to miss these guys but I’m happy I finally was able to read this series!

“But you have to know, me moving here, to this town, and finding you was the best decision I ever made.” My eyes burned but I refused to cry. “It’s as if this town, as if you, are fixing something in me that you didn’t break. I feel . . . alive. Happy.”
