Jude Nielson was under my skin, and I knew that as long as he was here in Calgary, I wouldn’t be able to stay away.
Pro footballer Jude Nielson, is recovering from an injury, and since he can’t play, he takes a trip across the pond to Calgary to see his NHL player brother in the playoffs. He also planned to use the time away to explore his bisexuality and hopefully hook up with a few guys. The first night he’s there, he meets Cody, who is gruff and not exactly friendly, but the two end up hooking up in the backroom of a gay bar. He doesn’t expect to see the guy again and is shocked to discover that Cody is one of his brother’s teammates. Cody has a reputation for being closed off and a little scary, and he tries warning Jude away from him. Jude doesn’t listen, and Cody finds himself unable to stay away. But no matter how close they become, the issue remains that they live on two separate continents and their careers are on two very different trajectories.
We live in different worlds. We can’t be together. But I don’t know how to stop wanting him. Wanting him to be mine.
This was a very sweet story. I read the whole thing in just a few hours! Jude and Cody were so good together. They didn’t start on the best footing, but I loved how neither was able to stay away for long. Cody was particularly reluctant to get involved; he valued his privacy and struggled connecting with people, but for whatever reason, Jude was able to break down those walls. I loved how Jude supported Cody and got him to see that he mattered to people. Seeing Cody open up was really great.
I also liked how the issue of them living on different continents and having conflicting careers was resolved. I won’t spoil anything, but it felt right and I was very happy with how everything turned out. Things moved fast for these guys, but I believed in their connection and was rooting for them the whole time! This was an easy, quick, low angst read, and I look forward to what else is in store in this new multi-author, shared-world series!
