The Misfits of Copper County by May Archer

Only a truly deranged person would volunteer to have their sexy nemesis in their house 24/ 7, sucking up all their oxygen and distracting them constantly, and I flattered myself that I wasn’t quite that deranged.

At least not yet.

Delaney Monroe moved to Copper County to be closer to his sister and new niece, but he hasn’t quite embraced the… quirks of small-town living. After spending his whole life feeling like a misfit in his own family, he now feels like a misfit in his new town. Contractor Brewer Barnum has been in town for a few years and is highly respected by the townspeople for his quality work, but he still feels like an outsider. He and Delaney have butted heads since the moment Delaney hired Brewer to renovate his home. When Delaney sort of accidentally contributes to Brewer’s home burning down and sort of, but not really, invites him and his dog to stay in his attic, they’re forced to spend a lot more time together. The more they get to know each other, the more they understand each other and begin to realize that for two people who always felt like misfits, they may have finally found someone with whom they completely fit.

I’d compared him to a hurricane, and I’d meant it. But I was beginning to realize that some storms changed your landscape forever.

So, no, I wouldn’t give up Delaney.

Not yet.

Not until I had to.

This was another cute story in the series. A little opposites attract with a dash of enemies-to-lovers. It was kind of fun seeing how much Delaney and Brewer butted heads in the early parts of the book. Delaney came across as a little snobbish and uptight at first, but as we got to know him more, the more I understood and liked him. I enjoyed seeing them getting to know each other better and finding some common ground. They were both so used to not fitting in, but over the course of the story, they not only found their place with each other, but they also started assimilating themselves into the town, and I loved seeing that just as much. Copper County and the neighboring O’Leary are full of an interesting assortment of people, and it was nice seeing these guys finally start to appreciate that and participate in the quirkiness.

“Whatever you want.”

I felt my face flush. What did I want from Brewer, exactly? I was starting to think it was… everything.

I enjoyed the side stories of Delaney’s story and how that tied into Brewer ultimately. And their Jam Cupboard Mystery. I especially enjoyed the Jam Cupboard part. What they ended up discovering was a lovely story, and I liked how the cupboard itself was included in the spicy scenes in the book! Overall, this story was sweet and entertaining. I thought the epilogue was so good. I loved getting updates on all the couples from the series. And the bonus scene about Brewer’s cousin and Kel was fun too! I’m not sure if this was the last book in the series, but if it was, this was a nice way to wrap it up.

We weren’t misfits anymore. We were exactly where we were meant to be.
