Though it wasn’t quite as chaotic and slapstick as the blurb led me to believe, I still enjoyed this book. It was basically like a tour through loads of different supernatural beings as Charlie befriends vampire, Lorenzo, and uses him to get him into all sorts of crazy situations to learn about these different beings to help him write his supernatural advice column. Only, Lorenzo doesn’t know that’s the real reason Charlie is trying to learn about these other beings, because Charlie lied when they met and kept digging himself deeper into the lie. So when Charlie and Lorenzo start to fall for each other, Charlie struggles with how to come clean about what he’s really doing with the info without losing Lorenzo’s trust.
Lorenzo had an axe to grind with Charlie when they met at the coffee shop because of something that happened a few years earlier, and I really wished that revenge scheme of his had gone on a little longer than it did. I think there was a lot of missed potential with that plotline. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing Lorenzo soften toward Charlie, but I think it could have been fun to see Lorenzo successfully or even unsuccessfully trying to get a little revenge.
There wasn’t a whole lot of plot outside of Lorenzo taking Charlie around to meet these various supernatural beings and Charlie’s lie hanging over their heads, but it was still a fun time seeing all the situations these two found themselves in. They were also very sweet as they started falling for each other. Lorenzo was surprisingly sensitive and a little awkward, which is uncommon for a sexy vampire. I enjoyed his character a lot.
There was a bit of angst at the end, but I thought the way everything was resolved was good. Overall, I thought this book was a fun time!
