Thrown for a Loop by Sarina Bowen

I’ve always enjoyed figure skating, and I love hockey, so this felt right up my alley. I thought it had a great balance of the two sports mixed in with a second-chance romance. The story is told in dual timelines, present day, and 9.5 years earlier when Chase and Zoe first met. The flashback chapters were cute, showing us how they fell in love as teenagers that summer. The young love/summer fling vibes were great. That contrasted with the current day, where they hadn’t spoken for nearly 10 years, and it leaves you wondering what happened to get them to that state. All is revealed in time, and I enjoyed seeing them figure out their way back together. It’s a slow burn, for sure, but the pacing felt realistic to me.

I thought Zoe was a great character. Being a woman in a male-dominated field (coaching hockey), she had a lot of obstacles and had to work hard to prove herself. She held her own so well, though, and I loved seeing her not give in to the pressure. Rather, she used it as a motivator to prove that she was good at what she did and deserved to be there just as much as anyone else.

I enjoyed this start to the new series. There was a great cast of secondary characters that I look forward to revisiting in future books!
