“As long as I’m on this earth, you will never question your worth again. You hear me? If anyone tries to make you doubt yourself, I will rip them apart with my bare hands.”
Like many people who are fans of the Chicago Thunder series, I’ve been looking forward to Elliot’s story since the moment he was introduced in Trade Deadline. So when this book was released, I dropped everything and dove right in. Overall, I thought this was a very sweet story, and I felt that Hunter was the perfect match for Elliot.
Elliot had plenty of people in his corner; his friends and teammates loved him and would always support him, but he hid a lot from them. Hunter was the first person who truly understood him and saw through the mask he wore around everyone else. I was happy that Elliot found that in someone. And I was happy for Hunter that he found love again after the tragedy he lived through several years earlier.
It did feel like some things were kind of glossed over, though, and it left me wanting more. Don’t get me wrong, I loved everything we got here, but it could have easily been a 5-star read for me if it just went even one level deeper. A lot of important conversations and moments happened off-page, and I wish we could have gotten at least some of them. But Elliot is still my favorite character in the series, and there were plenty of swoony and sweet moments throughout this book. There were also loads of cameos from the other characters in the series, which was a lot of fun.
“You know, if we’re sea otters in another life, I will hold your hand so you’ll never float away.”
“That’s good, because I’m never letting you float away in this life either.”
