Overall, I thought this was a cute story. I love a single-dad romance, and I thought for the most part, Tyler’s struggles and journey as a single parent were realistic. And his son, Rowan, was just adorable. Tyler’s hesitance to jump into anything with Jamie made sense, especially when Tyler was still trying to get his life together after moving back to Madison. But I liked the way Jamie kept showing up and the little ways he tried to make things easier for Tyler.
I thought they went from “maybe this is a bad idea” to all-in a little fast, but I let it go because it was all very sweet. I enjoyed how Jamie’s team and their families accepted Tyler and Rowan into their midst. It meant a lot to Tyler, whose main reason for moving back to Madison was to find a community for him and his son.
The hockey was good too, except for one entirely unrealistic thing near the end. It made for a triumphant moment, but it’s virtually impossible. Anyway, the rest of the hockey was pretty realistic, though.
The story was low angst, and I was glad the angst that did pop up didn’t go the way I thought it would (I would have been annoyed if it had!). The only thing I wish was that there was an epilogue – either included in the book or available to download. This was a story that really needed one to feel complete. But all in all, this was a sweet and easy read.
