Just a Taste by Briar Prescott

…and as far as plans go, it’s a motherfucking terrible one.

I’m well aware.

But I don’t have any better ideas.

What I do have is a… soft spot.

It’s baffling for me.

And unwelcome for Lake.

Marrying a guy you aren’t in love with, who is straight (as far as you know), and technically your step-brother so he can access his trust fund and help you out with your tuition seems like a pretty bad idea but it’s the situation Lake finds himself in. Ryker knows the idea is crazy but he’s always had a soft spot for Lake and it’s the best plan he’s got. He doesn’t expect that kissing Lake as part of the wedding ceremony would cause him to question everything he thought he knew about his sexuality. What starts as a casual exploration to answer Ryker’s questions turns into more than either was prepared for. Now, Ryker can’t give Lake up and he’s determined to prove to Lake that not everyone leaves and that what they have together is very, very real.

I am in so much trouble.

But fuck me, I like the way Ryker looks at me.

This evening is a train wreck waiting to happen.

Briar Prescott writes the best banter, hands down. The snark, sarcasm, and teasing are so fun to read. Lake and Ryker had some great exchanges. Lake was very jaded and cynical and Ryker was a ball of sunshine, they played well off one another. They were technically step brothers but hadn’t grown up together, outside of a few visits Lake had with his father over the years. But there was always something about Lake that drew Ryker in. I loved this soft spot Ryker had for him. Lake didn’t usually have people on his side and had some real abandonment issues. But whether he liked it or not, Ryker was always in his corner. It was sweet seeing him eventually let his guard down and accept the affection Ryker was offering. I enjoyed Ryker’s bi-awakening too. Initially, Lake wasn’t sold on being the one he experimented with, but it didn’t take long for him to get on board and they were very hot together!

It’s nice to have somebody in my corner. It’s been such a long time since anybody was here that there are cobwebs everywhere.

I enjoyed all the secondary characters, Lake’s friends were great and I liked the few teammates of Ryker that we got to know. I’m hoping we get more from these characters because the ending was a little open-ended and I loved them

“I know you think you’re this badass loner with nobody on your side, but ever since we met, I’ve always been there. On your side. In your corner. On your team. You’ve always had me.”
