I came across this book in my hunt for some holiday romances to read this season. The cover was cute and the blurb sounded fun so I gave it a shot. I’m glad I did, it ended up being a lot of fun! I loved the sunny CA surf town it took place in and the eclectic townfolks. The magical touches added just the right amount of whimsy and I thoroughly enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine romance between Jonathan and Forrest.
Jonathan Thomas moved to Sunset Surf to escape his ex and he’s met with the relentless flirting of Forrest Wilde. Still, Jonathan isn’t interested in being just one of Forrest’s many conquests. Jonathan does his very best to fend off Forrest’s flirtations. But one day Jonathan is mysteriously hit with a spell that forces him to grant the wishes of the townspeople and he turns to Forrest to help him with the wishes while they search for a way to break the spell. To Jonathan’s dismay, the longer he’s around Forrest, the more he realizes that he’s actually a good guy, a guy he can see himself falling for. Suddenly it seems the most important wish he’s going to try fulfilling is how to make Forrest his.
This book really was a lot of fun. It was fast-paced and made me laugh often. The grant wishing spell that caused Jonathan to be a little wish granter captured the magic of the holiday season, it was just enough. Jonathan was quite the grump toward the start, he was not at all impressed with Forrest’s shenanigans but it was fun seeing Forrest wear him down. Forrest was pure sunshine. He didn’t let Jonathan’s grumpiness get him down, he was such a flirt but he had depth and really seemed like a good guy. There was loads of sexual tension between them and if you enjoy a slow burn, you’ll get that here. It’s worth it when they finally get together. I’m excited (and a little nervous) to read the next one. I was initially going to wait until closer to Halloween but I think I’ll have to read it sooner because I can’t wait to find out what’s next for these two!
