Irresponsible Puckboy by Eden Finley and Saxon James

I’m his best friend.

He’s my heart and soul.

And nothing will ever change that.

Not even his inability to love me back.

Oh, the pining!! When I was finishing Egotistical Puckboy a week or so ago and saw the setup for Tripp and Dex’s story I was looking forward to some epic pining and I was not disappointed! Tripp Mitchell and Dex Mitchale have been best friends from the moment they wind up on the same team. They’re basically inseparable and anyone with half a clue can see that Tripp is head over heels in love with Dex. The problem is that Dex is straight so poor Tripp is left pining over his friend and trying to be happy taking whatever affection he can get from him. But when the two find themselves trapped in a PR disaster that’s quickly spiraling out of control, they have to push the boundaries of their friendship to avoid possibly being separated for good.

“I want us.” My voice breaks. “Always. Forever. Because I am so fucking in love with you, I don’t know myself without you.”

First of all, Dex was just the sweetest, most adorable man. He’s got a reputation as being kind of dumb and it made me a little sad to see, especially how he talked about himself that way too. Sure, he wasn’t always the sharpest tool in the shed but he was a lot smarter than he (or anyone) gave him credit for. Plus he was loyal and protective and really just an amazing friend to Tripp. He may not have started out romantically in love with Tripp but he still loved that boy with his whole heart and would have literally done anything for him. It was just so sweet and really endeared him to me.

Ok so maybe this situation they find themselves in was a little far-fetched and ridiculous but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the hell out of it. What it did was set the stage to showcase just how far both of them would go to protect one another. Even though Tripp had been hopelessly in love with Dex for years, he still agreed to go through with it because he couldn’t bear the thought of Dex being upset, even though he was pretty sure he’d walk away with a broken heart. And once the shit storm rained down on them, Dex stepped up and demonstrated what he was willing to sacrifice to ensure that none of the blowback landed on Tripp. Again, friend goals right there!

But, this is a romance so of course Dex is going to start to see Tripp in a new light and start to question some things he always thought regarding his sexuality. I absolutely loved Dex’s sexual discovery and of course, the experimenting that they wind up doing was super hot. I loved that even with all the uncertainty over what this all meant, their friendship never faltered. The fact they had such a solid foundation under them really helped them navigate this new terrain. Dex did have a couple of freakouts along the way, but they weren’t over the reasons you might expect. That may have been my favorite part, it just showed what a good heart he had. And then seeing Tripp finally get to have bits of Dex that he never thought he would, it was so good! Again, the pining was just excellent which made the pay-off that much sweeter.

I had a lot of fun with this book. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a story that will just leave you grinning. I had a feeling I would love these guys when I met them in the first book and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed! And now I’m looking forward to reading what Oskar gets up to in the next book!

“I’ve been hopelessly and pathetically in love with you from the beginning.”
