Never Have I Ever: Had a Bromance with a Teammate by Willow Dixon

Fuck. I was going to do it. I was going to cross the line I’d sworn I’d never cross and touch my best friend.

Matt and Jax have been best friends and teammates since their freshman year. They’re basically inseparable both on and off the baseball diamond. The fact that Jax is openly gay, and Matt is straight hasn’t affected their friendship one bit until one day when someone dares them to kiss each other and suddenly a whole new side of Matt’s sexuality is unlocked. Jax has always been Matt’s safe person, so it only makes sense that he turns to Jax to help him explore these new desires. Jax is more than willing to help Matt experiment but when they agree that their friendship and baseball are the most important things, does that leave any room for this new thing between them to be anything other than temporary?

This is book 3 of 4 in this series but can be read as a standalone, I had no trouble jumping right into the series with this book. After meeting the characters from the other books, though, I want to go back and read them too. I really enjoyed this one, it was a very sweet friends-to-lovers, bi-awakening, college sports romance. Matt and Jax had a great bond, Matt struggled with some things and Jax was so good at taking care of him during those times. That care and connection transferred well when they crossed the line from friends to lovers. Matt had a lot of figuring out to do and Jax was so patient and caring, he truly was Matt’s safe person, and it was just lovely.

These two were very hot together, they had amazing chemistry. I loved seeing Matt explore his bisexuality. I thought his journey was written in a thoughtful and realistic way. It wasn’t all smooth sailing once he discovered he liked guys and there were some things he tried that he didn’t care for and then other things really did it for him. I enjoyed all the conversations he had with his roommates and Jax about trying to un-program his brain from everything he was taught a man should be. There were some good and important conversations.

The story was low angst, most of the conflict came from external sources. As far as Matt and Jax went, they communicated well, and they were so in tune with each other that I was never worried about things going south between them. The look into the future in the epilogue was very sweet and be sure to click the link at the end to download the bonus chapter, you won’t be disappointed!
