It would be my luck that the first and only man I’ve had in my bed would be my best friend’s straight, jock twin brother.
Since I finished all the Puckboys for now I figured it made sense to go back and check out the series they spun off from. Especially since a lot of the CU Hockey characters popped up throughout the Puckboys. First up is Foster Grant and Zach Sawyer. Zach’s been best friends with Foster’s brother for years but he’s a little socially awkward and hasn’t spoken more than a few words to Foster in all that time. But now that Zach is transferring to Foster’s school to complete his graduate program, Foster’s brother has asked him to keep an eye on Zach. Foster’s pretty sure his brother’s request didn’t entail him kissing Zach or dating Zach but he finds he’s unable to stop himself from falling for the cute nerd that he’s always crushed on. Foster’s sights are set on the NHL and a relationship is a distraction he’s not sure he can afford but are his feelings for Zach strong enough to exist alongside his love for hockey?
And for the first time ever, needing someone doesn’t feel like a weakness.
This book was very sweet. Zach was socially awkward but a lovable nerd. I liked that Foster, the jock, had been crushing on him for years. It made it more believable when he ultimately pursued Zach. As the blurb indicates, Zach was very inexperienced and still looking to punch his V-card. I thought Foster took great care of him when helping him experience all his firsts. Whereas Foster’s brother, Seth, took the overbearing, overprotective route with Zach I like that Foster looked out for him while letting him find his independence. I thought they worked well together. Their banter was cute and their chemistry in the bedroom was hot.
The story was mostly low angst, there was a lack of communication a few times but it’s resolved quickly and fit with Zach’s character so I didn’t mind it. There was also a lovely coming-out scene, it was touching and humorous. All in all, this was an easy and enjoyable read and I’m excited to continue with the series!
I grin. “What’s that concept you were struggling with again?”
His green eyes meet mine. “Symbiosis.”
“Right. Two completely different organisms coming together to mutually benefit each other. That sounds like us.”
