Puck Drills & Quick Thrills by Eden Finley and Saxon James

Ever since he burst into my office in a whirlwind of rage, things have not been going to plan.

Westly Dalton’s NHL career was cut short, practically overnight, when his five youngest siblings were left orphaned. Rather than being out there living the dream, West now spends his days barely holding onto his sanity as he desperately tries to keep his family from falling apart. His only reprieve is his coaching job for CU’s hockey team. That is until he storms into Professor Jasper Eckstein’s office one day demanding to know why he won’t extend the extra credit the team’s star forward (and West’s brother) needs to pass the class and stay on the team.

Jasper has hated jocks, particularly hockey players, ever since being relentlessly bullied by them back in high school. And despite what West thinks, the fact that Asher is a jock is not the reason he won’t give any extra credit. That rule applies to everyone. But after just a few minutes in West’s presence, he finds himself breaking his own rule. It seems to be a trend because soon he finds himself bringing West as his date to his high school reunion. And after one amazing night together, Jasper finds himself wanting more and more of West. But West is already stretched so thin with all of his commitments, will he be able to find room to start something real with Jasper?

I wasn’t looking for a relationship, I didn’t feel like anything was missing, but damn, West barged into my life and showed me all the ways I was wrong.

Between the last few books in this series and all of West’s cameos in the Puckboys series, I was pretty familiar with his story but I loved finally going back and reading how he and Jasper fell in love! My heart went out to Asher in the last book with all he had to give up for his family but whereas he still had his NHL future ahead of him, poor West was smack dab in the middle of living the dream and had it all ripped away so quickly. I really felt for him. His entire life revolved around his younger siblings and he was barely holding it all together. He also never allowed any time for himself. Jasper turned out to be that safe space for West to just let go of it all. Jasper still had some lingering trauma from all he went through in high school and I loved how West was able to help him with that. They were so good for one another. It was also sweet how Jasper was integrated into their crazy family, even if it wasn’t always smooth sailing. There was also a bit of an age gap which resulted in some adorable teasing between them.

I’m sad that I’ve finished this series! The epilogue had me a little misty-eyed with the little updates about all the guys. I really enjoyed all the books in the series and I think that Westly finally finding his happily ever after was a great way to end it!

“Where were you when I was in high school? I could’ve done with a protector like you.”

“I was in kindergarten.”

He winces. “That stings more than I thought it would.”
