“I can’t explain it fully—I don’t even understand it fully—but protecting you is something as natural to me as breathing. Just as necessary too.”
Damien Blackthorne is on the hunt for a cure to the curse that is taking out his fellow dragons, one by one. He was too late to save his mother but there was still time to help his little brother. Along the way, Robby Diaz stumbles into his life. He’s charming and attractive and also apparently being hunted by vampires. After saving Robby’s life twice, Damien learns that Robby may just be the key to stopping this curse against the dragons once and for all. While Damien and Robby are busy trying to figure out how to save the dragons and keep Robby out of the clutches of the vampires, their hearts are also busy falling for one another. But can they take down the vampires, break the curse, and escape with their hearts intact?
I’d do everything in my power to keep him safe.
No matter what—or who—the cost was.
I don’t read much fantasy so I can’t say how this stacks up to other books in the genre but as a casual reader, I enjoyed this one! I liked the world that Max Walker built, the explanation of how these supernatural beings ended up here on Earth and how they all fit into society was cool. It was clever and not overly complicated, which I appreciated. There was plenty of action to keep things moving and there were some fun twists and turns along the way as our group of dragons and friends worked to save their family and the rest of the dragons around the world.
The romance aspect was a little insta-love, but that’s ok and not unexpected when it comes to these types of stories. Damien and Robby were sweet together. Damien’s protective streak was hot and I liked Robby’s teasing and easy-going nature. It was also nice and spicy!
This book was a nice change of pace from my usual reads. And judging by how this one ends, I presume there will be more books in the series, which I am looking forward to reading in the future!
“I will sooner burn down the world for you than live in it without you, Robby.”
