I may have only known him for basically a minute, but I can already tell he didn’t deserve what they did to him.
No one does.
I can’t right the wrongs of my own shitty family, but I can make things easier on this sweet man.
After being estranged from his family for the last 10 years, Christian is taking the unexpected invite to his cousin’s wedding as a chance to attend and make his family want to invite him back into the fold by showing everyone how amazing his life has been. A big part of the plan is the fake date he’s hired to impress his family. Too bad the guy cancels minutes before the wedding. His plan is seconds from going up in smoke when a handsome and charming man appears who could solve all his problems.
Émile is just looking for some air after being blindsided at the reading of his grandfather’s will with the news that he’ll have to marry if he wants to receive his inheritance. That’s when he runs into an adorable hot mess of a man outside a wedding and is instantly drawn to helping him when he hears the poor man’s plight. The two click immediately and Émile thinks Christian could be just the person to help him with his little husband problem. It’s the perfect plan, marry, get the money, stick it to his family, and then part amicably. Not part of the plan was falling for each other, but we all know how these things work!
A laugh bubbles in my chest at his flailing and the fact that he was right. He’s a walking disaster.
I think I’m in love.
I think I was in love with both of these guys by chapter 2. Poor Christian was a nervous disaster heading into his cousin’s wedding and Émile was this angel of a man who showed up and was totally game to help him out. Their chemistry was palpable from their very first interaction and just got better from there. They were so cute together, but also funny, swoony, and very hot together. I loved how supportive they were of one another from the start. They both had such amazing hearts. They made me so happy.
Maybe this has an end date, and we’re doomed to crash and burn, but I’ll start the goddamn fire myself if it means getting to have this time with him.
I’ve never craved someone as much as I crave him.
This one was relatively low angst but Émile’s awful family trying to thwart their wedding at every turn provided plenty of conflict. Christian could be a bit scattered at times but I thought he held his own with Émile’s family and if he stumbled, Émile swooped in to help. I loved that he never overstepped, though. He knew Christian was capable of way more than he gave himself credit for, Émile was happy to be there to support if needed. Their dynamic was the best. And I appreciated how well they communicated. There were many times things could have broken down due to lack of communication and I’m so glad that didn’t happen. It’s very refreshing to read about characters who know how to talk to one another!
If he wanted to call me his and take my name and let me pick up all of his broken pieces and keep them safe until he was ready to fix them again, I’d do it. I’d be everything he needed, and the only thing I’d want in return is him.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the found-family aspect of this story. I was familiar with the Big Boned Bertha crew from reading Gabe’s story last year but this was my first true exposure to everyone there and I just loved them. I loved the way they were always there for one another and their fun games and banter. And I particularly loved how warm and accepting Émile was with the whole thing. It couldn’t have been more different from the type of life he was used to but he was smitten with the whole crew from day one. It was beautiful. I loved everything about this book and I’m so excited to read Seven’s book now!
I don’t care if things are early.
I don’t care if we’ve done everything the wrong way.
Because all of those wrongs gave me the biggest right of my life.
Him.
