Micah had been living behind so many masks for so long, it only made sense that letting one drop would terrify him. All I could do was take the time—the years, if I had to—to show him that nothing about him scared me.
Vanya Maximov might just be my new favorite E.M. Lindsey character. After falling in love with him in Stick Around, I was so excited to see that he was one of the main characters in this book. He is the epitome of golden retriever energy and just an all-around walking green flag. I fell in love with him even more throughout this book. The way he saw through Micah’s masks and offered his support with no expectations was great. Micah had a lot of people who would have been in his corner, but he had shut them all out, so it was nice seeing Vanya work his way in there and be that person who looked out for and cared for Micah when he needed someone most.
My heart broke for Micah; that guy was going through it and was so mixed up trying to fix everything on his own. And the whole stalker storyline provided some suspense, which I enjoyed. I mean, I didn’t enjoy what ended up happening to Micah (and Vanya), what Hunter did was truly awful, but it made for an exciting story.
There was also some humor, Vanya saw to that! I loved how friendly he is with everyone and how jovial he was. Yet, when he needed to be protective or serious, he could flip the switch at a moment’s notice. It was a tough road, but I enjoyed seeing Micah find his way through and find his way back to all his friends and family – characters we’ve come to know and love over the course of this series. And to top it off, he found the love of his life with Vanya. These two were so good together, and I was rooting for them the whole way!
