Face Offs & Cheap Shots by Eden Finley and Saxon James

“One day you’re going to admit you like my company without wincing or pausing.”

“Maybe.” He smiles. “One day.”

It’s a tale as old as time – two dudes who have spent the last 3 years hating each other get roped into a game of “gay chicken” and when they’re kissing they suddenly realize “well shit, maybe I’m not as straight as I thought”. And I loved every single second of it. There’s just something about an enemies-to-lovers story that does it for me every time. The competitiveness and rivalry between Beck and Jacobs was so good and the way they antagonized each other was so much fun. The fact that they still continued to do so even after they started hooking up was even better. I laughed so much while reading this one, I have so many highlights of parts that just cracked me up.

There has never been a time in the last three years where Jacobs and I haven’t been getting under each other’s skin.

Who knew it was foreplay?

Beck and Jacobs came from two very different worlds, which was the main source of animosity between these two and it all came to a head when they were pitted against each other to see who will become team captain next season. Jacobs came from very modest means and had to work hard to keep his scholarship and place on the team whereas Beck came from a very wealthy family and basically had everything handed to him. But there was a lot more to Beck’s story than it seemed and I loved seeing these boys start to soften toward one another as they actually took the time to go beyond surface details.

He’s got long, muscular legs, thick thighs, that butt hockey players are famous for, and sweat dripping down a defined torso.

I try to swallow, but my mouth is dry.

Yeaaaah, I’m so not as straight as I thought I was.

I also really loved them figuring out their sexuality. Up until their kiss they both identified as straight. Jacobs had a period where he questioned his sexuality a little but nothing ever came of it whereas Beck had never been attracted to a man before. It was sweet seeing them try to figure it out together. Usually, in these stories, at least one character has some experience in this department but with these two they were on a pretty level playing field and it was so much fun seeing them explore this newfound attraction, it was very hot and also sweet and funny. Their competitive nature extended to the bedroom too, which was so true to their characters!

Someone laughs, and then Rossi yanks me into a headlock and ruffles my hair. “This is taking gay chicken a bit far, guys.”

Beck shrugs. “You set me a challenge, I’m going to follow through.”

I laughed and swooned throughout the story but also shed a few tears! It wasn’t super angsty, in fact, once Beck and Jacobs decided they were all in, they were pretty solid for the duration. But Beck had a complicated situation with his family and some of those scenes hit me right in the feels, especially the one right near the end. I loved how everything turned out, though, and make sure to download the bonus look into their future that’s linked at the end of the ebook! This book was pretty perfect to me and I’m so excited to keep going with this series!!

“Turns out there’s a fine line between love and hate, and that line is blowjobs.”
