Up in Flames by Eden Finley and Saxon James

“I’m regretting letting you be here already.”

“But you’re not thinking about Eman, are you?”

“True. Keep annoying me.”

“Oh, I will. I’m going to annoy you until you love me.”

There were a number of reasons Sanden wasn’t keen to be a groomsman for his old high school friend, Eman, but when his friend bails on the wedding, having to inform the other groom that the wedding isn’t happening shoots to the top of the list. Another reason was that Sanden had crushed on Remy ever since they met years ago and he’s regretted introducing Remy to his loser best friend and missing his chance to make his own move on Remy.

He knows it’s ill-advised to make a move on Remy right after he’s left at the alter but he can’t resist doing whatever he can to help Remy get through what Eman’s put him through. Starting with turning Remy’s reception into a petty party and inviting himself along on Remy’s honeymoon. Things quickly escalate between them and soon they’re spending all their time together, but their sudden co-dependency is only masking personal issues they each have to deal with if they have any hope of building something lasting between them.

This is the Sanden I’d always known was there. And now I get to experience it all to myself.

He’s swept me up in a goddamn hurricane, and I never want him to set me down again.

This book was very different from the hockey books we’re used to from this writing duo, it still had spice and humor but overall it was a lot heavier than their other books. Be sure to check the content warnings at the start if you’re worried. Remy’s ex was a real piece of work, his manipulations were infuriating and it was sad to see how it had affected Remy. Sanden was so supportive and caring, I loved the way he took care of Remy throughout everything. He was a really great guy but he had his own demons he was avoiding. They cared so much about each other but when they realized they were both kind of hot messes, the way they handled things was very mature, even if it was sad to read. But I was happy with how everything turned out and the epilogue was just lovely! Plus it was fun seeing Gabe and Aleks make a few cameos in this one!

“Ah, but you see, I’m one of a kind. The most amazing human there ever was. Selfless, heroic.”

“Humble?”

“That too. Basically, I’m the perfect specimen of a man, and you’re in so much trouble when it comes to me.”
