Goal Lines & First Times by Eden Finley and Saxon James

“Maybe I wasn’t being dumb all these years, after all. Maybe I was waiting for you.”

Seth Grant’s life has mainly been spent living in the shadow of his twin brother and having ex-girlfriends and his family asking him if he’s sure he isn’t gay. Seth, who identifies as demisexual, knows he needs an emotional connection before he can experience sexual attraction. When his latest ex suggests he try online dating, and not ruling out any specific gender, so he can get to know a potential partner before they even meet in person, he decides to try it.

Richie Cohen always considered himself straight. Making out with your high school best friend wouldn’t make him gay, would it? If his teasing teammates were to be believed, it would and now that he’s been made aware, it makes him question things about himself. This leads him to sign up for a gay dating app to see what happens. He doesn’t expect to find someone he can’t stop thinking about or talking to, even if the guy won’t tell him his real name. Now, he’s just got to hope he can get his ‘Einstein’ to agree to actually meet in person.

I loved this book! There was so much of Seth’s journey that I related to, so I loved seeing him try and figure himself out. This book also helped me better understand/appreciate his actions from the first book in this series, specifically how he treated Zach. It was fun reading all the messages between Einstein and Richie and then seeing them as Seth and Cohen interacting in person without realizing the other was who they’d been talking to non-stop for months. I was positively giddy when the truth finally came out, it was so perfect! Then watching them explore things when they finally got together was hot, sweet, and often very funny. Poor clueless Richie with his revelations of the various statuses of their relationship was hilarious.

There’s a bit of angst that hits near the end but it’s not too bad and I thought it was true to their characters and reinforced just how far they’d go for one another. This series has been so good so far, I love all these guys! It’s great seeing the past characters featured so much in the other books and I’m intrigued by Asher, whose story I’ll be diving into soon!

“I lived for so long thinking I was broken, and then you came along and showed me that I’m valid, my identity is valid, and proved that with the right person, the right connection, I could have everything I was missing.”
