I’m Your Guy by Sarina Bowen

I’m so confused. Do we have chemistry? For real? Or am I just a sad, horny boy with a crush on the hot athlete?

Tommaso DiCosta has played for the Colorado Cougars for a few seasons after an unfortunate incident caused him to be traded from his prior team. Despite not being new to town, he’s only recently purchased a home and is in desperate need of furniture before his mother arrives to spend Christmas with him. But he doesn’t have the time or patience to make it happen on his own. Luckily for him, he meets Carter Flynn at a local furniture store, he’s an attractive man who just so happens to be an interior designer. Carter is really down on his luck and on the brink of financial ruin so he could really use the job. There’s an undeniable spark between them but Carter is working hard to put his life back together and Tommaso is trying to keep his own life from blowing up. Acting on their mutual attraction may have disastrous consequences or it may turn out to be the best thing to ever happen to them.

“You can have anything you want. But you have to promise me one thing.”

He peers down at me, fire burning behind his dark eyes. “What?”

“Don’t regret me,” I whisper.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book since reading The New Guy earlier this year and was fortunate enough to receive an early copy. I really loved this story! Carter was easy to fall in love with, his life was in shambles but he was still a bundle of sunshine and just the thing Tommaso needed in his life. Tommaso took me by surprise, though. He was very deeply closeted and once I learned why, my heart ached for him. This same reason contributed to the less-than-stellar reputation he had within the league. But once you got to know him, you can easily see he was nothing like the man the league painted him to be. I absolutely loved seeing him loosen up and truly enjoy his time with Carter. Their flirting was the cutest.

This was a slow burn, for sure, but the attraction was simmering the whole time and I thought the payoff was worth it. I loved these two together. I loved their friendship, their chemistry, and the way they communicated – they were so good for one another. There was a fair amount of angst but it was mainly external to their relationship and it was nice seeing them work through it. It was also great getting to see Hudson and Gavin some more! I hope Sarina has more books planned for this series. I don’t think there’s been any official info but I did think that maybe there was a setup for another book near the end of this one. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

“I’ve been at war with myself for years, you know? It’s just that lately—for the first time—the other side seems to be winning. And I’m kinda digging it.”
