…it kind of feels like she’s looking for something in me that might be able to help her find something in herself. That’s the part that’s hardest to ignore—and also the most dangerous.
It’s time to go back to the quirky small town of Mayweather, and I couldn’t be happier! If you’ve read Maybe We Can Fake It, then you’ll probably remember Addison Moore, the prickly head chef at Mayweather Inn. She moved to town after a messy divorce and has no intentions of looking for love again. But then Riley Rowland shows up. Riley is known as America’s Country Sweetheart, but some bad press sends her running back to her hometown to lay low for the summer. They might have gotten off on the wrong foot, but soon neither one can resist the chemistry they share. Will Addison be able to open her heart up to another woman? Especially one who is set to leave once summer ends? Or will Riley find the thing she’s been searching for in Mayweather?
She found me. I didn’t know I needed to be found, but I’m starting to think I did. I’m starting to think she found me in more ways than one.
I enjoyed this story so much. I love a character that has a prickly exterior but is actually a total softy for the people they care about. That’s exactly who Addison was. As soon as she got to know Riley and saw that she wasn’t some snooty celebrity, she developed the biggest soft spot for her, and it was so sweet. I loved seeing Addison finally letting Brenden in as well. Their friendship was great.
Riley was a great character, too. She may have been a huge country music star, but she was so down-to-earth and a total people pleaser. The latter quality is what got her into the situation she found herself in at the start of the book. I thought the book did a nice job showing the less glamorous side of the music industry and how restrictive it can be regarding contracts and obligations. But I loved seeing Riley’s journey of figuring out exactly who she was and what she wanted and then ultimately finding the bravery to go after it.
The story’s vibes make it a perfect read for summer. There’s a bit of conflict, but thanks to healthy communication between the characters, it stays fairly low angst. Overall, this book was sweet, funny, sexy, and very heartwarming. Addison and Riley were so good together, and I loved seeing them find their HEA! And I was excited to see that we’ll be heading back to Mayweather with an upcoming third book in the series!
…it can be scary being seen. But she’s made it pretty clear that she likes what she sees.
And I like what I see in her too.
