Remi isn’t an anchor. He’s the goddamn sun. And like every good flower, I bow toward him without hesitation.
This book was the sweetest way to cap off this series. I read most of it with the sappiest smile on my face. It was as sweet as can be. Remi and Benson were so perfect together. I loved the way Remi truly saw Benson and helped him as he navigated his recent autism diagnosis. And Benson was so wonderful with Remi. He learned ASL again without question and always made accommodations to ensure Remi’s CI wasn’t blocked so he wouldn’t miss anything. He was so considerate; the world could do with more people like him!
“You’re so open. So honest. And you make me feel normal, whatever that is. Or, like, normal doesn’t matter so much. Like I’m okay just as I am. And I believe it when I’m with you.”
I loved Benson’s journey of finally being able to live freely and unmasked after 42 years. He was such a sweet soul and had been stuck in a job and world that wasn’t the least bit understanding. Seeing him find a home and a place he could fully be himself in Darling, MT, was so heartwarming. I have no doubt he would have been ok doing it on his own, but it was so special seeing how easily Remi accepted him and ultimately loved him. Remi never expected Benson to be anyone other than himself. His support and words of encouragement were truly heartwarming.
Benson was right. Love is big. And scary. And so many wonderful things we’re capable of losing. But it’s worth it. Every single time.
There was also a storyline with a mouse that was so unexpectedly sweet. It was just the cutest. And, of course, the whole Darling family made appearances. It’s always a treat visiting with them. The epilogue was actually the perfect way to wrap up the series. And don’t forget the bonus scenes for each couple when you’re done!
“I think I had to find myself before I could find you. So you could see the real me. It scares me to think how close I was to missing this. You were right here and I nearly missed you.”
