I had a good time with this one! Fake dating is a fun trope, and I enjoyed how it played out between Ben and Arya. Their first steamy hookup at the start of the book was to get Ben’s pushy ex-boyfriend off his case. Never expecting to see Ben again, Arya ghosts him. They’re both shocked when Arya learns Ben now lives in Kansas City, and realize they’ll have to see each other often as Arya’s company is planning a major event for the Philharmonic symphony that Ben is part of.
When Ben’s ex starts sniffing around again, Ben panics and tells him he’s already moved on with Arya. What starts as a purely transactional arrangement quickly becomes something that feels very real. Will they be able to navigate the bumps they encounter and find their happily ever after?
Ben and Arya had immediate chemistry; their first hookup was steamy and also quite sweet (well, until the ghosting part). When they reconnect in KC, there was no doubt that chemistry was still there. I loved how they thought they were only pretending when they started fake dating, but in reality they’d quickly settled into a very real partnership. They were so supportive and sweet with one another.
Arya may have been a self-proclaimed slut and never saw himself as a relationship guy, but he was a natural at being a doting boyfriend. There is some angst and drama toward the end, but it made sense for their characters, and I was so pleased with how everything turned out. I think you’ll find yourself rooting for these guys the whole way through!
I also loved the found family aspect and seeing the characters from the first two books again. This is a great group of friends, and I loved seeing it grow as everyone found their HEAs. The diversity and celebration of queer culture were also fantastic in this book (and really throughout the whole series). I’d be happy to return to this world if the author ever considers writing more about it!
