The Invisible Roommate by Timothy Janovsky

A jaded musician who runs away to a small island in hopes of becoming invisible ends up with an unexpected roommate – a scientist who is actually invisible. The two form an unlikely friendship and ultimately fall in love in this cute and quirky fall romance.

The invisibility aspect was fun, but you really need to suspend disbelief and not think too hard about the logistics. If you just enjoy the whimsy of it all, it’s a sweet romance. They got off on the wrong foot, but it wasn’t long before a tentative friendship formed. I loved how Gerard became very protective of Emory, who was stuck in his invisible state and wanted by the residents of the island for some purported crimes. I also enjoyed the whole “love is blind” thing as Gerard fell for Emory without seeing so much as a photograph of him. It was sweet experiencing Emory’s reactions to Gerard’s kindness, since he hadn’t had much of that in his life up to that point. Emory was rather prickly when we first met him, but he was actually a total sweetheart in the end.

There were a few things that I didn’t enjoy quite as much (Gerard’s whole journey with religion was unexpected and a little strange, for example) but overall I thought this was a cute, easy read that’s perfect for the Halloween season.
