Review

At long last, we have the conclusion to the Pawn Duet! I know I complained a little about how parts of the first book were a little slow but that was never the case in the second half of the story. There was a big cliffhanger at the end of the first one and things spring off from there and are pretty much non-stop from there on out. The big theme in this story was revenge, but there was also quite a bit of redemption. One character in particular really surprised me and I was happy with the direction his story took. If you like action, danger, and lots of twists and turns, Pawn has all of it.

I was also on the fence with Pike and Mickey in the first book but they grew on me as a couple in this book. I really liked Mickey’s journey throughout this half of the story. And I thought the way everything wrapped up was really nice. There were many things in the book that were very timely given the current social climate in the world, I wonder how much the current events influenced the direction of the story. There was a lot of food for thought in the overall message of the story, I thought that part was very well done.

Overall this was an action-packed and satisfying conclusion to the story. If you were waiting for both parts to be complete, now’s the time to have a nice binge read and spend some time in the King universe!

Pike bends me over the sink. I grip the edge to prevent falling face-first against the porcelain. I glance up at him through the mirror to where he’s standing behind me, appraising my body with fierce heat in his fiery eyes. He molds his body against mine. I close my eyes at the sensation I’ve been dreaming about feeling since the last time I saw him. I relish in his scent, his heat.

“Open your eyes, Mic,” he orders. “I want you to see this. To see us.”

My only response is a whimper. I have no words.

As ordered, I open my eyes.
