“I think we were supposed to meet, Milo Hooker. Life brought us together for a reason.” She rested her head against my shoulder and let out a big sigh. “We’re here to help each other find our new paths.”
As it worked out, I had a bit of a break in my “required reading” (a.k.a. ARCs) so I’ve just been bopping around my TBR list and checking out some books that I’ve wanted to read but never had the time. Which brought me to My Favorite Souvenir. I’ve always been a fan of Vi and Penelope’s co-writes so I knew I was in for a treat and boy was I right! I loved this book, it had me hooked from the start and I had a hard time putting it down. Part One sweeps you up into the adventures of Maddie and Milo Hooker, aliases for our heroine and hero, Hazel and Matteo. It was so much fun going on the road with these total strangers embark on a journey that will leave them forever changed. They may not have known each other very long but the connection they found was real and profound and I was so into it.
Part Two thrusts them back into their real-life and unknowingly into a situation that may make it impossible for them to ever find their happily ever after. I’ll admit, I was not expecting this turn of events, I only realized the direction the story was going moments before it was revealed. But boy was it a doozy. There was never a doubt for me as to how I wanted things to end up but it was a bumpy ride to get there.
I just loved the chemistry between Hazel and Matteo, their adventures as Maddie and Milo Hooker, and even when they “met” again as Hazel and Matteo. There was just something so easy and natural about their relationship. Matteo was totally swoon-worthy, the perfect book boyfriend. And I have to say, the visual of “Matteo” on the cover of this book didn’t hurt at all! It was easy to crush on Matteo but I also really loved Hazel. She picked herself up after one of the most embarrassing things that could happen to a girl and she was determined to not let that get her down. I loved seeing her rediscover herself and find the adventurous side that had fallen to the wayside over the years.
I’m convinced that Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward can do no wrong, especially when they join forces. This was another addictive and thoroughly enjoyable read from them and I’m so glad I was finally able to get around to reading it!
