Review
Halloween is almost here and where better to spend it than New Orleans with Millie, Brielle, and Daphne! I think technically this book could stand alone but I think for best enjoyment you’ll want to read Shadows – Brielle & Cash’s story – before you read this so you can get to know this world and understand the danger they are facing. This story is set a year after Shadows and tells Millie and Lucien’s story and I really enjoyed it!
If you’ve read Shadows, you’ll remember the alarming twist things took toward the end. They may have defeated the immediate danger at that time but now it’s back and in an even more terrifying form and I was so here for it. I loved how this book delved even further into the witchcraft and magical aspects. We learned a lot about the history of these families including a really interesting prophecy about what’ll be needed to completely defeat this evil. I thought all of this was very well done. I could vividly picture all of this playing out and it was sufficiently spooky and suspenseful. I think that it’s shaping up to be a great finale in the third book next year!
In addition to all the spooky elements – this book featured a really charming love story. Millie and Lucien have a very long history, as in a thousands-of-years history! Except, only Lucien remembers their previous lives together so in this lifetime he’s been waiting patiently for Millie to realize they were fated to be together. I really loved how the past and present were woven together to make this a really robust love story, despite the fact that in this lifetime they’re only together for a matter of days before they take their relationship to the next step.
I’m really enjoying this series, it’s the perfect October/Halloween read! I’m very much looking forward to Daphne’s story and the conclusion of this series next October!

About
Spells by Kristen Proby is now live!
From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes Spells, the next installment in her gripping Bayou Magic series…
As a powerful hedgewitch and psychic, there isn’t much I can’t work to my advantage and finesse with a spell. Love, fortune, and even the perfect cup of coffee are all possible with the snap of my fingers.
But some things are utterly beyond my control.
Like the powerful and broody warlock who’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember–and even the lifetimes I often can’t. Things almost as dangerous as Lucien Bergeron’s hold on me and the breathtaking smiles only I get to see.
Or the evil still stalking the streets of New Orleans that beckons to me to see. To feel. To die.
With everything riding on a razors-edge, and things that have been portended coming to fruition, threatening both me and those I love, I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to resist my fate. Or his charm.
If I work with Lucien, it could mean the end for both of us.
If I don’t, those I love most will pay.
