Brielle and her sisters each have a unique gift that leaves them sensitive to all things paranormal. Brielle’s abilities allow her to see dead people in the form of shadows. Over the years she’s learned to cope with it, such as sticking to familiar places so that she’s not caught off guard by shadows she’s not familiar with. So it’s very unsettling when new shadows appear and begin following her and alert her to heinous murders happening to local women. Her only hope in stopping this serial killer may be opening her life up to Cash Winslow, the handsome stranger who she meets on her ghost tour one day. But doing so may put both their lives in danger.
This book definitely has some dark and evil parts and the author did not skimp on the details. I was very interested in figuring out who was doing these unspeakable things and why. It was unsettling and well-executed, in my opinion. I loved Brielle and her sisters and how they came together to use their “witchy” powers to try and solve the murders. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t give many details but things take a very frightening turn late in the story and it makes me very excited for the next two books in the series!
My favorite part was the mystery and the suspense but there was also a sweet love story between Brielle and Cash – albeit very quick and sort of picture-perfect. I liked the two of them together but I would have almost been ok if they were already a couple at the start of the book and we just got to see them working together to solve the murders. Their meeting and the way they got involved with one another was almost too easy and felt a little discordant compared to everything else going on in the story. But that was just a minor gripe, overall I really enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing what’s next for Brielle and her sisters!
